The Invisible Log

Matthew 7:1-5 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye (NLT).”

I had read this verse many times before and understood it for the most part. However, I had never really caught on to this truth in what Jesus was saying until after I had started writing some thoughts down concerning personal incidences with other Christians who carry a critical spirit about them.

The truth is, I believe that Jesus was saying that the people who usually judge others and point out other people’s little faults are usually the ones who have the greatest faults and yet they are totally oblivious to them. Their intentions are to draw the attention away from themselves and place the attention on others so that their own faults will not be noticed.

Does this sound like someone you know? Maybe this is you. What is it that you are trying to cover for that you would have to point fingers at someone else? Whatever it is, you need to settle it because it’s causing strife and division in your life and the lives of others.

Matthew 7:12 - “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.”
